Brief Biographical Sketch:

I am a junior at Hofstra University's Honors College, pursuing a double major in anthropology and linguistics, with a minor in Japanese. I graduated with high honors from SHS in Connecticut, where I was a member of the flag and weaponline in Color Guard; I have also instructed both the middle and high school Color Guards.

Outside of school, my interests include traditional archery, gaming, foreign language acquisition, anime/manga, and a host of other topics too numerous to list here. (I've also recently become interested in world politics--woe is me!) I am currently in the process of writing my first novel, and will be tackling two senior honors thesises next semester.

H4415: The History of Middle-Earth: the Valian Years in Splash! 2010 (Nov. 20 - 21, 2010)
JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings takes place fairly late in the overall timeline of Middle-Earth; what happened before that? Come learn about the rich history of Arda as we follow the events that ultimately led to Biblo Baggin's discovery of the One Ring. Part one in a three-class series, we will be learning about the Valar and the Shaping of Middle-Earth, Melkor's betrayal and the subsequent First War amongst the Valar, and other important events that form the foundation of Middle-Earth and pave the way for The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.


H4424: The History of Middle-Earth: the First Age in Splash! 2010 (Nov. 20 - 21, 2010)
JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings takes place fairly late in the overall timeline of Middle-Earth; what happened before that? Come learn about the rich history of Arda as we follow the events that ultimately led to Biblo Baggin's discovery of the One Ring. Part two in a three-class series, the First Age marks the Awakening of the Elves and their the Great Journey westward, the forging of the Silmarils (and what on Arda is a Silmaril anyways?), and the Awakening of Men, among other things, notably battles... We will also learn who Fëanor is and why his sons helped ruin everything.


H4425: The History of Middle-Earth: the Second Age (and a little bit of the Third Age) in Splash! 2010 (Nov. 20 - 21, 2010)
JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings takes place fairly late in the overall timeline of Middle-Earth; what happened before that? Come learn about the rich history of Arda as we follow the events that ultimately led to Biblo Baggin's discovery of the One Ring. The final part in a three-class series, the Second Age sees the forging of the Rings of Power, and all the disasters that brought, such as: the War of the Elves and Sauron, the birth of the Ringwraiths, the corruption of Númenor against the Valar and the elves, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men (among other things). We will also cover the Third Age up to the events immediately proceeding The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Most history classes gloss over Egyptian mythology in favor of studying the more well-known Greek and Roman gods—find out what you’ve been missing! We’ll cover the major gods involved in the Egyptian creation myth up to the Contendings of Horus and Seth, from Horus and Seth (duh), to lesser well-known deities like Khonsu and Nit.
