Z14253: Introduction to Positive Disintegration - Part 1 in Splash 2020 (Nov. 14 - 15, 2020)
Dr. Kazimierz Dabrowski’s Theory of Positive Disintegration (TPD) provides a lot of explanations for why some of us feel as if we fit into this world so poorly. In this session, we will explore the basics of TPD, including OverExcitabilities, Dynamisms, and Levels of Development of personality. So, if you are looking for alternate explanations for why some things bother you far more than they bother most folks, join us!


H13872: Space Opera: Space Craft, Colonies, and Aliens! in Spark 2020 (Mar. 14 - 15, 2020)
Lots of adventures happen in space, some with battles and some with aliens. What goes into these settings? How can you build your own? We will cover a bunch of the basics and do some work individually and in groups on designs, as well as looking at some brilliant examples and some... less brilliant ones.

Science Fiction and Fantasy have many characters who stick out compared to others because they have more magic, different powers, unique abilities. We will look at how these characters are treated by the worlds in which they are set and reflect on what, if anything, this says about the society in which we live.

This is a course for students who have taken the Introduction to Positive Disintegration course whether this year or a previous one,, or those with familiarity with Kazimierz Dabrowski's work from other sources. It is *not* for beginners!

There are many different ways to entertain oneself with games derived from the standard chess formats. Some of them are well-known, like "give-away chess." Some of them are less familiar, like toroidal chess or Ultima. In this session, we'll look at many of the variations and take some time playing a few of them!

In the year 2150, we've colonized Mars. How did we get from here to there? On the planet Trzymy, there is a plot to overthrow the Usurper! How did he come to power and what is the heritage of his country? We're doomed. We know we're doomed. The leaders say so. Has it always been this way? If not, when did things change and how? Creating a solid history to lean on in your story telling can make the tale a lot easier to craft for an author, or at least a lot easier to follow for a reader! We will work to understand how histories work and what we need to do to build them!

"All children are gifted." "I can't be gifted, I'm no good at math." "Gifted kids don't need any help." "If I'm so smart, why are my grades so bad?" "You're done? Why don't you help the others, then?" What do we mean by gifted? What difference does it make? Does it change who you are - or should it? Why bother with the label, anyway? This is a discussion-oriented class.

This is a class for those of you who have given this some thought and would like others with whom you can bounce ideas back and forth. We'll also look at some of the historical books on this topic. Couldn't we do better than what we have?!

Both science fiction authors and futurists have been trying to figure out what the future would look like for a long time! In this class, we will look backwards at the ideas of the future looked like - jet packs for everybody, robots in everyday life, living on the moon, or perhaps WWIII and IV, and other dystopian prospects. Join this class and your future will be looking up!
