Brief Biographical Sketch:
There are numerous loves in my life: western European history, environmental science, politics, world religions, and strawberry cheesecake. I also enjoy interesting documentaries, Socratic discussions, and creating colorful powerpoints. I am Breeanna Elliott and I am from the small city of Stamping Ground, KY. I attended Scott County High School where I was active in several school activities. During my senior year, I was President of Seniors4Seniors (a group dedicated to organizing events at the local retirement center), Vice-President of Beta Club, Secretary of National Honors Society, and a tutor for the English as a Second Language program. I also worked two hours daily at the school's library as the librarian assistant which gave me the opportunity to get to know the staff of the school very well. In addition to my (volunteer) job as a librarian assistant, I babysat regularly and worked as a waitress at a local Chinese restaurant. Currently, I am a student at Harvard College where I plan to either concentrate in History or Government, and receive a citation in Spanish. After my undergraduate studies, I will most likely attend law school and get a teaching degree. As for potential careers, I am at the moment undecided, but open to all opportunities. Everything has a limit. Luckily, we have yet to experience first-hand the consequences of exceeding the carry capacity of our species. Despite our lack of world-wide catastrophe, we as humans are pushing the resources the Earth provides to near extinction. In this course, we will explore what this means to us now, and in our future. How has science given us the ability to continue to support a rapidly growing population? What are the results of using science to manipulate the qualities of our natural resources? This class will illustrate to students the impact exponential growth of humans has on the Earth and how it is negatively affecting both our environment and our health.
