A6338: What's Funny? in Splash! 2012 (Nov. 17 - 18, 2012)
In this class, we'll look at various examples of comedy - from the sketches of Monty Python, Mitchell and Webb, and SNL to great theatrical comedies like Airplane and Young Frankenstein - and analyze what it is that makes us laugh. We'll then open the class into a comedy writing workshop, wherein students will write their own sketches.

A brief overview of the science behind cars, including introductory thermodynamics, as well as discussions about transmissions, different kinds of engines, rear-differentials, and more.

A brief overview of the films of Quentin Tarantino, a director who has been both heralded and scorned throughout the course of his career for his unique and often crude style. We will examine what it is that gives his films their distinctive feel and what it says about him as a filmmaker.

A look at the concepts of good, evil, and the gray area in between, framed in a discussion of comic books. By looking at such works as Batman, Watchmen, and Marvel Zombies, we will explore both sides of morality, and the ever-thinning line that separates them.
