X3078: Baking Delicious Scones in Splash! 2009 (Nov. 21 - 22, 2009)
In this class, we'll learn to bake scones with raspberry and white chocolate chunks, as well as talking a little about the history of the food. (We'll be using dairy products, but no egg, lard, or other scary non-vegetarian things.)

H3088: Elements of Fiction: A Writing Workshop in Splash! 2009 (Nov. 21 - 22, 2009)
Should we always "write what we know," or write about what interests us? Is it always better to show instead of tell? By examining the elements of fiction that draw us to certain books, we can learn more about how to write stories that will keep us interested in writing and our audience interested in reading. If you remember, please bring a copy of your favorite novel to this class.

H3091: Story Writing in Splash! 2009 (Nov. 21 - 22, 2009)
Maybe you're just getting started with creative writing. Or, maybe you're putting the finishing touches on your 4000 page epic trilogy about the fated elves of Nornendorfendor. Either way, it never hurts to look at your writing through a different lens. In this workshop, we'll discuss how to write a story with a mature plot by beginning with a simple premise. We'll also do a few writing exercises, and share thoughts about the importance of characters, setting, and plot.

A3092: A World of Color in Splash! 2009 (Nov. 21 - 22, 2009)
Do you know your vermilion from your viridian? Your eggplant from your ecru? As one of the most important elements of design, color is commonly utilized by artists and advertisers alike to evoke a certain emotional response in humans. We'll discuss psychological associations of colors as well as their meanings across cultures. This is an art class, too, so get ready to roll up your sleeves!

S1826: Piracy 101: An Introduction to Life on the High Seas in Splash! 2008 (Nov. 22 - 23, 2008)
Do you know your corsairs from your buccaneers? Ever wondered how Calico Jack got his name, or when crews raised the Jolly Roger? This class will explore the history of piracy and how it relates to its romanticized image in pop culture.

H1827: Adventures in Pixel Art in Splash! 2008 (Nov. 22 - 23, 2008)
Even with the advent of cutting-edge graphics applications, creating pictures pixel by pixel - a la SNES graphics, Habbo.com, or the end credits of WALL-E - is still a thriving form of computer art. This beginner-level class will familiarize students with different styles of pixel art and help them create their own 8-bit color masterpieces.
