E14980: How to Build a Solar Car in Spark 2022 (Mar. 12 - 13, 2022)
MIT’s Solar Electric Vehicle Team (SEVT) is faced with a unique challenge: design, manufacture, and construct a solar-powered vehicle from scratch to compete in a long distance endurance race. By long distance, we mean about 1,500 miles! Students from across disciplines come together to create a community of teammates and friends working to solve real-world problems with significant impacts. We’ll cover topics from the construction of our carbon-fiber aeroshell, to the arrangement of the 416 Li-ion cells in our battery, and to the machining of our custom steering system. Apart from engineering, members learn invaluable business and project-management skills by approaching this challenge from a higher level. Come check out how we build a solar car and how the car works!
