Brief Biographical Sketch:
Maria is a Masters of Engineering Student at MIT who is majoring in computer science and minoring in math and classics. She was born in Egypt but moved to NY 9 years ago. Many years ago, she participated in Hampshire College Summer Studies in Math (hcssim.org), and there she learned a lot about yellow pigs, 17 and origami. Ever wish your computer would write that pesky history paper for you? Wish there was an iphone app for that? People actually study how that dream can be accomplished! Natural Language Processing is the branch of computer science concerned with studying human languages and modeling them in ways so that computers can easily understand and generate coherent text.
By the end of this class, you will have created a grammar for the English language and take a stab at generating understandable text from it.
