Brief Biographical Sketch:
Sam is studying materials science and engineering with a minor in energy studies. He is a co-captain of the MIT wrestling team and a National Champion wrestler. He is a member of the opinion staff of The Tech, works for the information center as a tour guide, and does research in the Grossman group. While working as TA, Sam discovered how rewarding teaching can be. Since that time, he has gotten involved with the on-line learning movement and wants to help use digital learning to better engage students and help them discover the joys of learning. In his spare time, Sam enjoys writing, reading, exercising, and playing the cello. Learn how to become an expert at anything you think is cool.
This class teaches project planning, research methods, and communication skills that students use to pursue independent research projects on topics of their choice. Students present their work a form of their choice to their peers on the last class.
The class aims to show students how fun learning can be when given the opportunity to control what you learn and how you do it. It also aims to equip students with the tools and confidence to become independent learners capable of mastering any topic that interests them.
