What is ESP?

The Educational Studies Program (ESP) offers middle and high school students the chance to learn about a wide variety of subjects they may never have been exposed to otherwise - Abstract Algebra, Russian Literature, Neurobiology, Architecture, Quantum Physics, Contra Dance, Zombie Defense, the list goes on. We seek to give students a chance to (re)discover that learning can be fun through a variety of programs, ranging from a single weekend of fun introductory classes, to a multi-week college-level learning experience.

All our programs are run by undergrad and grad students at MIT, and our teachers come from the MIT community as well as from other schools and communities in the Boston area. In one year, our approximately 800 teachers will teach over 1500 classes to well over 3000 students from the Boston area and beyond.

This sounds cool! How can I get involved?

Glad to hear you're interested! There are two main ways you can be involved in ESP. If you're interested in teaching for any of our programs, just make an account on this website, and start thinking of what you could teach! Once you have an account, you'll receive emails when teacher registrations open for our various programs.

If you want to be a part of the awesome team of individuals that make our programs happen, we'd love to have you! The easiest way to get involved is just to start coming to our meetings and worksessions, which happen weekly in our office (W20-467) on at 7 PM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, respectively - and you get free food! There's no formal process for becoming a member, just hang around and help out.

Whether you're just interested in teaching, or want to get more involved, we invite you to come to our start-of-year events. Firestorm, an exercise in "can we teach you something cool with a 5-minute time limit, and if not, can we at least make you laugh?", runs annually on a Sunday evening at the beginning of the school year.
